What Was That Smell? Oh, Just GOP Presidential Candidates

The stench permeating the borderland air this week wasn’t only from Juarez for once. GOP presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy (never the Teutonic Rudolph) Giuliani were in Texas to… well, to do something, I guess. Romney wanted a photo-op with Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and McCain and Giuliani were meeting with supporters in Houston (both of them).

Since I recently bought a paint sprayer and appropriate protective gear, I’ll be well prepared to handle the influx of Democrats when they come out along with springtime cockroaches. A mere handkerchief over the nose won’t do. That’d be like wearing noseplugs in a gas attack.

The El Paso City Council, fresh from solving all the city’s growth, infrastructure and pollution problems, proclaimed today Bob Marley Day. The West Texas city, a well-known mecca for reggae, has hosted such famous reggae bands in the past as Banda Spliff, Los Tigres del Jamaica and Mariachi Kingstown. David Crowder, intrepid El Paso Times reporter, brings us the news, after buying off the editorial staff to get his byline in today’s edition.
